Medford Family Network: Branding Refresh & Website Redesign

Elevating a Community Cornerstone

The redesign of the Medford Family Network (MFN) website and brand identity focused on transforming a long-standing community resource into a modern, accessible, and user-friendly digital home. Built on WordPress using the Divi 5 framework, the new site serves as both a high-impact marketing tool and a functional resource for local families. By elevating the existing branding and building a sustainable design system in Canva, the project ensures MFN remains professional and unified across all platforms, even on a nonprofit budget.

The Challenge

As a vital nonprofit, MFN is “many things to many people.” Their digital presence needed to organize a vast array of programs and resources while remaining accessible to a diverse community. Furthermore, a total rebrand was off the table due to the costs of updating physical assets like vehicle wraps and signage. The challenge was to modernize the brand “in place” and build a website that was easy for staff to update, included robust translation tools, and integrated their existing (but complex) calendar system.

The Approach

Strategic Branding & Canva Integration

To honor the budget, the branding strategy focused on evolution. We cleaned up the existing logo to feel more modern while maintaining its core identity.

  • The Canva Ecosystem: To ensure long-term consistency, I moved MFN onto a Canva account. I developed custom templates and brand guidelines within the platform, allowing staff to create program flyers and social graphics that are distinct yet unified.

  • Scalable Identity: By defining a refreshed color palette and typography, we gave the brand room to grow in the future without making their current physical signage look outdated.

A High-Performance WordPress Build

Moving away from restrictive platforms, I built the new site using WordPress and the Divi 5 framework. This combination allowed for a highly customized layout that didn’t sacrifice performance.

  • Global Accessibility: To serve Medford’s diverse population, I implemented language translation tools, ensuring that every family—regardless of their primary language—can access vital community resources.

  • Dynamic Calendar Integration: Rather than forcing the staff to learn a new scheduling system, I integrated their existing calendar platform directly into the WordPress site. By pulling this data into various views, families can now find and digest programs and schedules in a way that is intuitive and mobile-friendly.

  • Empowering the Staff: The Divi 5 framework provides a visual editing experience that makes it incredibly easy for the MFN team to manage the site. They can update text, swap images, and post news without needing a developer on speed-dial.

    The Outcome

The result is a vibrant, accessible digital hub that reinforces MFN’s position as a pillar of the Medford community. The new site has successfully shifted from a static information page to a dynamic tool that serves families in real-time. By providing a “brand-in-a-box” via Canva and a flexible WordPress backend, MFN is now empowered to manage their own growth with professional, cohesive visuals that honor their history while looking firmly toward the future.
